Hi, I'm Ned, and I've been working in technology for nearly 30 years involving Hardware Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, Statistics/Data Science, and Medical Imaging. All of this work has involved a lot of software development and coding in Fortran, C/C++/C#, MATLAB, and now mostly Python. Besides a lot of software development work, I'm very much interested in Statistics, Machine Learning, and Data Science (I approach AI with great interest and caution). I did my PhD at the University of Sydney, working a lot with Linear and Nonlinear Regression, Bootstrap, and Model Selection techniques. If you really want to know more about my academic work, you can read my thesis, Reliability and Uncertainty in Diffusion MRI Modelling. You can also see a list of my publications on my Google Scholar page.
A lot of my career has involved working directly with customers, both before and after the sale, and enjoy aiding customers' understanding of technical concepts and requirements. I've done my own consulting and have given many technical presentations to others, ranging from Sales VP's and the "C-Suite" to global teams of data scientists. Some of my favorite work has been teaching others, especially in an academic setting, where I taught Digital Imaging to third-year Radiography students for two semesters. Hopefully some of my teaching acumen comes through in the several articles I've written on my site.
Outside of tech, I've spent many an hour listening to ambient music, played a lot of rugby union when I was younger (still love playing touch rugby), love hiking and camping, and I'm also a licensed private pilot who likes to get up every now and then for some "aerial therapy".
I created the latest version of this site with Pelican and Tailwind CSS.
